Ultimately, we believe it is right to focus our efforts on the core Elite Dangerous Odyssey experience for the platforms that we have released on, before opening up to more. There is no new release date as of yet.ĭavid Braben, the CEO and founder of Frontier, explained the studio’s decision in a thorough post on the game’s official forums. It was originally meant to arrive on consoles on fall 2021. The Odyssey update was a massive undertaking, tens of thousands of new places to go and the ability to explore worlds on foot. Fixing up Odyssey has changed the timeline of Elite Dangerous’s other updates, and fans have been frustrated.Ĭonsole players are going to have to wait to get their hands on Odyssey while Frontier Developments fixes up the PC version of the game.

The recent Odyssey update caused issues, leading to frame-rate drops, buggy planet generation, and other issues.

So while there will be probably some automatic benefits, we would probably need a re-work for the PS5, would we need to buy a new PS5 version? More questions than answers.Elite Dangerous is currently in turmoil, and developer Frontier Developments is taking steps to get the situation under control. This might not necessarily mean any better graphics etc but just a better more stable performance of the quality mode already available on Pro. We may just be left with the PS4 version (which should run better if Sony implement a way to automatically make use of the PS5 power and we know load times will be improved due to the better SSD hardware). Loading times etc should be vastly improved like the Spider Man demo they showed, which was basically Pro version running on PS5. Its a new machine, so my guess for it to take full advantage of the console a new version would be needed. I am not sure how a patch to the existing version would work as while the PS5 will be backwards compatible its not like the current gen PS4 to PS4 Pro (or Xbox One to One X).

Hopefully but, of late (Planet Zoo) consoles seem to have taken a back seat at Frontier towers.
